STANDARDS

SMS Centrifugally Cast Ductile Iron Pipes are in complience with the following
standards:

- Ductile Iron Pipes

ISO 2531:1998   Ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints
EN 545:2002   Ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints for water pipelines
EN 598:1994   Ductile iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints for sewerage application

- Coatings and Linings

ISO 8179-1:1995   Ductile iron pipes - External zinc coating - Part 1: Metallic zinc with finishing layer
ISO 4179:1985   Ductile iron pipes for pressure and non-pressure pipelines - Centrifugal cement mortar lining
ISO 8180:1985   Ductile iron pipes - Polyethylene sleeving

 

MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS

Minimum tensile strength (MPa)   420 MPa
Minimum elongation percent after fracture   10 for DN 80 to 1000
  7 for DN 1100 to 1600
Maximum hardness   230 HB

WALL THICKNESS

The nominal iron wall thickness ‘‘e’’ of the pipes is given by,
e= K(0,5 + 0,001DN)   Where DN is the nominal diameter, and 
K is a coefficient represents the thickness class of the pipe.
Standard SMS centrifugally cast ductile iron pipes are of thickness class K=9. For other class of thickness please consult us.

TOLERANCES ON DIMENSIONS

The tolerances on nominal wall thickness of centrifugally cast pipes are as follows:

For   Tolerance There is no limit for upper limit (+ tolerance) in order to be in the safe side considering internal pressure resistance.

Tolerances on lengths are as follows:
     
Push-on type pipes   ±30 mm
Flanged pipes   ±10 mm
   
     
Pipe straightness shall have a maximum deviation of 0,125 of the length of the pipe.

COATING AND LINING

       

All pipes are coated by metallic zinc with a bituminous finishing layer.

Besides metallic zinc coating with a bituminous layer provides all the protective needs for most of the type of soils;
for severely corrosive soils polyethylene sleeving can be supplied.

All pipes are internally lined with centrifugally applied cement mortar lining.
